Description - Opus XIV Royal Tobacco
Modern oriental built on resinous warmth. Genuine Amouage Opus XIV Royal Tobacco EDP decant from ৳1,556 in Bangladesh. Notes of oud, benzoin

Cigar smoke is a hard thing to bottle without turning it into dessert, and this is Amouage refusing to take the easy route. Opus XIV Royal Tobacco is a 2022 eau de parfum from the house's Library Collection, composed by Cécile Zarokian after she was handed an antique cigar box and asked to translate it. The result runs a line from Omani frankincense to Cuban tobacco. Anyone hunting an Opus XIV Royal Tobacco decant in Bangladesh will find it here in three sizes.

The Scent

The first minutes are divisive and worth knowing about in advance. Several reviewers describe the opening as animalic to the point of being unpleasant, one calling it close to something dead before it turns. Others get resinous frankincense, green anise and a cold cardamom bite straight away. Either way, the top does not last long, and what follows is a clove-forward, spicy tobacco that keeps its distance from the honeyed cigar cliche. The heart is where the licorice root does its work, pulling the tobacco absolute toward bitterness instead of sugar. Prunol adds a dried fruit and faintly nutty shadow behind it, and the florals sit low, more texture than bouquet. As it settles, birch tar and myrrh smear a dark, tarry smoke across the base while tonka and Madagascar vanilla soften the edges. The dry-down turns herbal and earthy rather than sweet, with the anise facet of tonka still audible under the woods. Not everyone lands on the same side of it. Some call it the best tobacco fragrance in modern niche, while a Basenotes reviewer found the development flattened out and questioned whether it earns the Opus name and price. What both camps agree on is that the tobacco here reads as cured pipe leaf, not cigar shop syrup. The reference point people keep reaching for is Dior Eau Noire, with Royal Tobacco offering more depth and richness where Eau Noire has more breadth. It is worth saying that this is a complicated fragrance rather than an easy one, and it asks for patience through the first fifteen minutes. Amouage ages it for six weeks and runs it at 25 percent oil, which is audible in how dense the middle feels compared to most tobacco releases at any price.

When to Wear

Autumn and winter evenings, formal dinners and dressed-up events where you want presence. The resin and tar make no sense in Dhaka humidity at noon, but they come alive after dark once the weather turns. Sits comfortably alongside the rest of our Tobacco collection.

Who Is It For

Someone who already owns a few tobacco fragrances and wants one that argues with them. Not a starting point, and not a safe blind buy if you dislike smoke or animalic openings.

If you like the leather and incense side of the house, Opus VII Reckless Leather sits in the same Library territory and is worth comparing. Browse the full Amouage collection at Aromatica.

Available as an authentic decant in Bangladesh at Aromatica in 3ml, 5ml, and 9ml.
