Created by Anne Flipo and Carlos Benaim, it is classified as an oriental fougere for women, a combination that was unusual enough to divide opinion immediately. The idea is straightforward but bold: French lavender in the same bottle as Moroccan orange blossom, held together by vanilla and musk. The Scent
Petitgrain and mandarin open with a clean, almost brisk quality, delivering a slight green citrus sharpness while black currant adds a dark, fruity edge that keeps things from smelling generic. Lavender shows up immediately, but this is not the lavender of a men's shaving cream or a bath product. It reads more abstract here, cool and slightly powdery, with a faintly herbal quality underneath. Within the first ten to fifteen minutes, the orange blossom begins to surface, and this is where Libre finds its character. The orange blossom is rich and almost creamy, warmer than you might expect, and it pulls the lavender in a direction that feels genuinely unusual. Jasmine deepens the floral core without making it feel old-fashioned or heavy. There is a persistent tension between the cool herbal opening and the warmer floral heart, and it is precisely this tension that makes the composition interesting. As the dry-down sets in, the vanilla extract becomes more prominent, soft rather than gourmand, rounding the whole thing without making it sweet. Cedar provides a dry, clean structure underneath, and the ambergris and musk add warmth and skin-closeness. In the base, Libre becomes a comfortable, slightly powdery skin scent with enough warmth to feel genuinely feminine. The lavender note can remain surprisingly persistent well into the dry-down, which is not typical of floral fragrances. On certain skin types, the orange blossom and vanilla can dominate from early on, making it smell almost immediately like a warm floral rather than a fougere. Both experiences are valid, and both are enjoyable. Through each stage of the transition, the interplay between the herbal lavender and the creamy orange blossom keeps the composition moving rather than sitting flat, giving the fragrance a sense of gentle evolution from the first spray to the final hours on skin.
