Common Questions
Good to know
-
Black Iris is the creamier, more wearable one. It keeps the smoky incense, leather and oud DNA of the Interlude family but wraps it in orris and amber, so it feels softer than the original's dense incense wall. It is also a separate scent from Interlude 53 Man, despite the shared line.
-
It leans formal and evening rather than casual daytime wear. The leather, oud-smoke, myrrh and incense base is rich and serious, far better suited to cooler weather and dressier occasions than to a quiet daily-office backdrop on an ordinary weekday morning.
-
Opus VII Reckless Leather takes the same leather-and-oud pairing into rawer, spicier territory built on fenugreek and cypriol, while Black Iris filters everything through a dense, buttery orris note instead. Black Iris reads softer and more contained; Reckless Leather stays sharper and more aggressive throughout.
-
It's dense by design, built on violet leaf, resins, leather and oud layered under a rich orris note, so someone entirely new to niche perfumery may find it a lot to take in at once. It reads as one of the more approachable entries in the Interlude lineage, but it is still far from a light, casual scent.
-
The orris here is dense and almost edible rather than dry and chalky, and whether that softened, buttery read appeals to you over the raw original Interlude is a genuinely personal call. A decant lets you wear the complete arc from violet-leaf opening to leather-oud base before deciding on a larger size.
