Description - Black Opium EDP
A gourmand done with restraint. YSL Black Opium EDP from ৳751, authentic decants in Bangladesh. Notes of vanilla, coffee and pink pepper.

Yves Saint Laurent turned the codes of Opium upside down in 2014 with Black Opium Eau de Parfum, swapping incense-heavy orientalism for a coffee-drenched, after-dark gourmand built for a generation that treats fragrance like a second skin. It reads modern and a little rebellious, the kind of bottle that looks at home backstage as much as on a dinner table. Aromatica carries the Black Opium EDP decant in Bangladesh in all available sizes, so you can live with it before deciding how much you want.

Fragrance Notes

Top: Pear, Pink Pepper, Orange Blossom

Heart: Coffee, Jasmine, Bitter Almond, Licorice

Base: Vanilla, Patchouli, Cashmere Wood, Cedar

The Scent

Coffee is the first thing the nose registers, dark and almost bitter, and it never fully steps aside for the rest of the wear. Pear arrives alongside it, juicy and a touch sharp, cutting through what could otherwise feel heavy. Pink pepper adds a warm prickle, and orange blossom softens the edges within the first few minutes, keeping the opening from turning into straight espresso. As the top notes fade, jasmine moves in underneath the coffee, floral but not sweet, more like a shadow than a bloom. Bitter almond is the surprising turn here: it brings a marzipan-like facet that some noses read as gourmand and others read as slightly medicinal, and both reactions are fair depending on skin chemistry. Licorice deepens that heart further, anise-dark and a little smoky. The dry-down is where vanilla finally takes over, but it is a roasted, coffee-stained vanilla rather than a bakery one. Patchouli and cashmere wood settle in underneath, earthy and soft-focus, while cedar keeps the base from collapsing into pure sweetness. Hours in, what remains is warm, slightly boozy, and unmistakably nocturnal. The transition from pear to coffee happens quickly, so the fruit reads more like a spark that lights the espresso than a note that lingers on its own. Orange blossom keeps drifting back in in small doses during the early heart, a faint white-flower breath that stops the licorice and almond from turning too dark. Jasmine and bitter almond blur together on skin rather than sitting apart, so the heart can smell like sweetened smoke as easily as it can smell like a bakery counter. As patchouli and cashmere wood take hold, the licorice recedes into the background, leaving mostly its shadow rather than its bite. Cedar keeps surfacing at the edges of the base, a dry counterpoint that stops the vanilla and patchouli from blending into a single soft blur.

When to Wear

This belongs to late dinners, dark bars, and the walk home after both. Cold weather cities in winter suit it best, when the coffee and vanilla read as comfort rather than excess. It also holds its own at a concert or a night out where you want something with presence, not a quiet office desk spray. Explore more from the Yves Saint Laurent collection if this direction appeals to you.

Who Is It For

Someone who reaches for black coffee over dessert wine and prefers a fragrance with a little edge to one that plays it safe. It suits a person who wants to smell like they have somewhere interesting to be after midnight.

If you enjoy Libre Eau de Parfum, its lavender-orange blossom warmth makes for an easy comparison from the same house. Browse the full Yves Saint Laurent collection at Aromatica.
