Kilian Straight to Heaven

Straight to Heaven, white cristal goes back to the very start of Kilian. Launched in 2007 by perfumer Sidonie Lancesseur, it is one of the house's earliest scents, and it set up a theme Kilian still returns to: spirits. It is a dark rum and patchouli fragrance, with nutmeg in the opening and vanilla and cedar in the base. Today it sits in The Cellars, Kilian's family of woody scents with a twist of rum, cognac or coffee. Aromatica carries the Kilian Straight to Heaven decant in Bangladesh, so an early Kilian classic can be tried in a small size.

The Scent

The opening is dark rum with nutmeg. Kilian describes it as a burning splash of rich rum, and the booze is clear and strong from the first spray. Nutmeg adds a warm, dry spice alongside it. On some skins, the alcohol note reads sharp and spirit-like before it settles.

Kilian says the rum's sweet gourmand side is softened by creamy vanilla and dried fruit, so the opening moves from raw spirit toward something richer and rounder. That dried fruit tone gives it a slightly raisin-like warmth.

The heart is patchouli, spicy and earthy. It gives the scent its backbone and turns the rum from a drink into a woody, dark fragrance. This is where it starts to feel more like The Cellars family than a cocktail.

The base is vanilla and cedar. Cedar adds a fresh, dry woodiness to balance the patchouli, and vanilla keeps the finish smooth. Kilian describes the end as reaching an animalic harmony, a warm, slightly skin-like depth under the woods.

The official pyramid is short, and that keeps the scent focused. Rum, spice, patchouli and wood carry it from start to finish. In 2021 Kilian released a limited Straight to Heaven White Cristal Oud and Musk, which is a different scent without the rum. This page is for the original.

When to Wear

Straight to Heaven is a cool-weather, evening scent. Its rum and patchouli suit winter nights, dinners and relaxed evenings out. It is not an office fragrance, since the boozy opening is very clear.
