The Scent

Saffron registers first, dry and slightly leathery, before the Bulgarian rose pushes through in full bloom. There is a spiced warmth from the cinnamon that keeps the rose from turning powdery or soft, and this is where Rose Oud earns its reputation as a "masculine" take on a traditionally feminine note, though that framing has always undersold it. Within twenty minutes the litchi appears, a strange, almost confusing addition that reads as watery sweetness cutting through the spice. That phase passes.
