Kilian Moonlight in Heaven

Mango sticky rice is a famous Thai dessert, and Moonlight in Heaven treats it as a mood rather than a recipe. Created by Calice Becker in 2016 and now part of Kilian's Fresh family, it is a tropical mango and coconut scent opened with lemon and grapefruit, with rice and jasmine sambac in the heart and a tonka and vetiver base. The Scent

The opening is lemon and grapefruit, spiced with pink pepper. Kilian describes it as citrus-forward, and on first spray it is bright and zesty. Some wearers find the first minutes strong and dense, like the scent wants to make itself known.

The heart is mango, coconut milk, rice and jasmine sambac. This is the centre of Moonlight in Heaven. Creamy mango is the main character, softened by coconut milk and a pale, slightly starchy rice note. Kilian describes the jasmine as powdery, and it adds a light floral glow around the fruit.

The base is tonka and vetiver. Tonka warms and sweetens gently, and vetiver keeps the finish dry and clean. Kilian highlights roasted tonka bean as one of the three key notes, alongside grapefruit and mango.

What surprises many people is how airy it is. The notes sound heavy and gourmand on paper, but reviewers describe a transparent, almost weightless feel, tropical without being a beach cliché. Not everyone is won over. One critic found it too mango-dominated and called the drydown a faded mix of fruit and plain vetiver. Wearers also point out that the long note list now on Fragrantica differs from Kilian's own description.
