The Scent
Bright neroli and bergamot arrive first, sharpened by a quick flick of pink pepper and coriander that keeps the opening from going flat. That green, slightly soapy neroli edge lasts only a few minutes before the florals crowd in, and this is where Love, don't be shy earns its name. Orange blossom and honeysuckle bloom huge and indolic, more candied flower than fresh petal, with jasmine and a quiet rose filling the edges. Then the marshmallow note arrives, soft and pillowy, and it changes the whole reading. It can read like a gorgeous creamsicle of orange blossom and sugar, or the sweetness can feel genuinely overwhelming and almost syrupy depending on skin. A dusting of iris adds powder, so it never reads purely like dessert. As it settles, sugar, caramel and vanilla pour in to anchor the florals, and the texture shifts from sharp and floral to round and confectionary. That transition is worth paying attention to: the pepper and coriander that opened things up dissolve almost entirely, and the honeysuckle softens into the background while orange blossom rises forward, dominating the heart in a way that is equal parts floral and gourmand. The surprise is the civet. That animalic touch keeps the sweet, powdery base feeling skin-like rather than cloying, with labdanum and musk adding a warm, slightly dirty hum underneath that stops the gourmand sweetness from reading flat. The middle hours are where the orange blossom and marshmallow lock together into the accord most people remember it for, rich and enveloping in a way that demands attention. The dry-down is softer and closer to the body, a vanilla-marshmallow haze with the orange blossom still flickering through, warmer and more intimate than the brash opening would suggest.
