The Scent

Grapefruit and lemon open it at high volume and unusually high quality, bright and clean with none of the cheap sharpness that ruins most citrus openings. Lavender sits underneath giving the top its fougere structure. Then the direction changes. Rum is the first thing to announce itself after the citrus, and it brings a refined alcoholic warmth rather than a boozy slur, with rose and sandalwood filling the middle out and turning the texture creamy. As it dries down, vanilla and coffee absolute build a soft powdery sweetness, and one reviewer describes the effect as lemon sherbet mixed into ginger ale and vodka, a kind of wedding punch accord.
