Common Questions
Good to know
-
Same mineral spine, different weight on top of it. Terre d'Hermes Parfum opens on orange and grapefruit over flint, with oakmoss and benzoin underneath, so the citrus is generous and the stone accord sits behind it. The Intense trades most of that citrus for black pepper, then adds coffee and licorice through the middle, which makes it darker and more bitter. The Parfum is the warmer of the two; the Intense is the one with shadow in it.
-
Yes, and it is roasted rather than sweet. There is no sugar, milk or vanilla anywhere in this formula to soften it, so the coffee reads the way an unsweetened espresso does: bitter, dry and slightly burnt, sitting against licorice which pushes it further in that direction. It is not a gourmand note here and nothing about the fragrance is edible. If you were hoping for a coffee dessert, this is the opposite of that.
-
Yes, considerably. Most of the citrus generosity of the Parfum is traded here for black pepper, and coffee and licorice push the middle toward something roasted and bitter rather than bright. Fans of the original's citrus-and-flint balance may find this a harder, less immediately likeable version; fans of dry, mineral gourmands will find it a smart deepening.
-
The coffee-and-licorice layer reads to some as a smart, characterful deepening of the Terre formula and to others as muddying its spare, architectural signature. A decant lets you sit with that tension, the sharp mineral opening against the roasted, earthy heart, before committing to a bottle at this concentration.
-
This Eau de Parfum Intense is frequently compared to the Terre d'Hermès Parfum; both share the house's dusty, stony mineral backbone, but the Intense pushes it into darker territory by layering in coffee and licorice. The result reads richer and more gourmand, with a cold, close-up coffee note rather than the Parfum's plainer mineral finish.
