Description - Rare Reef
Sun-soaked citrus over quiet woods. Afnan Rare Reef Extrait decant from ৳461 in Bangladesh, sizes 5ml to 15ml. Notes of citron, grapefruit a
Rare Reef by Afnan lands with a fig leaf and salt air already on the nose. Launched in 2025 and built by perfumer Lucas Sieuzac, it belongs to the Aromatic Fruity family, a category Afnan rarely touches given its usual oud-heavy, powerhouse catalogue. This one trades incense and amber for citrus peel and green fig, aiming at something closer to a coastal walk than a boardroom entrance. Aromatica carries the Afnan Rare Reef decant in Bangladesh in all available sizes, so you can size the bottle to how often you actually reach for citrus-driven scents. The name suggests coral and tide pools, and the composition backs that up with a mix of bright fruit and quiet woods underneath.
Fragrance Notes
Top: Orange, Mint, Citron, Grapefruit, Blackcurrant, Coriander
Heart: Apricot, Basil, Violet Leaf, Rose
Base: Fig, Ambrette, Amberwood, Dates
The Scent
Grapefruit and citron hit first, sharp and cold, with mint running right alongside them instead of trailing behind. Orange rounds out the citrus so it never turns sour, and coriander adds a faint peppery edge that keeps the opening from reading as simple fruit soda. Blackcurrant shows up early too, dark and slightly tart against all that bright peel. Within the first twenty minutes, apricot starts to push through, softening the citrus into something closer to ripe stone fruit than sharp zest. Basil follows, green and slightly anisic, and it is an unexpected pairing with the apricot's sweetness, one that keeps this from settling into an ordinary fruity-fresh lane. Violet leaf adds a cool, almost metallic green facet, while rose stays low in the mix, more texture than bloom. As the heart fades, fig takes over the drydown, its milky, slightly woody quality pairing with dates for a soft, dried-fruit warmth that reads much less sweet than the name dates suggests. Ambrette and amberwood close things out with a musky, sanded-wood base that feels closer to skin than to a fragrance still performing. The transition from icy citrus to warm fig is the most interesting part of the wear, and it happens gradually enough that you notice it in stages rather than all at once.
When to Wear
This suits early mornings by the water, brunch on a covered terrace, or a humid afternoon when heavier scents feel like too much. Citrus-forward and fig-warm, it works through Dhaka's hot months better than most Afnan releases built for cooler climates. For more reef-adjacent, citrus-driven picks, the Afnan collection at Aromatica has a few worth comparing side by side.
Who Is It For
Good fit for someone who reaches for grapefruit and mint over vanilla and amber, and who wants a fresh scent with actual depth rather than one that fades to nothing after an hour.
If you like the ocean-leaning freshness here, 9AM Dive shares that same aquatic, citrus-first energy and is worth a side-by-side sniff. Browse the full Afnan collection at Aromatica for more from the same house.
