Common Questions
Good to know
-
The 2021 Phantom is built on lemon zest, apple, smoke and earthy notes over vanilla and vetiver. Phantom Parfum drops the apple and smoke, adds cardamom, rhubarb, geranium and tolu balsam, and leans on a darker vanilla. The original reads as candied apple and citrus; the Parfum reads tart and creamy.
-
On paper they look almost the same, because Fragrantica gives them nearly identical pyramids. Rabanne positions them differently: Phantom Parfum is the darker, mostly natural version with black vanilla bean, while Phantom Intense is pitched as fresher, with a frosted orange blossom accord. Pick the Parfum for depth, the Intense for brightness.
-
Fragrantica columnist Eddie Bulliqi called it divisive in his 2023 review, reading the acidic rhubarb and lavender against heavy cream as soured milk, and later placed it last in his ranking of the Phantoms. Other wearers in the comments enjoy exactly that cream-and-tonka darkness. The split is about the sour-sweet contrast itself, not about quality.
-
Heat speeds up the bright part and amplifies the heavy part. Rhubarb, lemon and bergamot burn off quickly in humid air, which leaves the vanilla, tolu balsam and patchouli doing most of the work. Two sprays rather than four, and evening rather than midday, keep that base from crowding the lavender.
