Paco Rabanne Phantom Intense

Phantom Intense is the 2024 eau de parfum intense in Rabanne's Phantom line, credited to Dominique Ropion, Anne Flipo, Juliette Karagueuzoglou and Paul Guerlain. Bright lemon and lavender run into a sweet amber of vanilla and orange blossom, smoother and fresher than the darker Phantom Parfum. Rabanne launched it in January 2024 alongside Fame Intense, its counterpart for women.

The Scent

It opens clean and lifted. Lemon comes first and cardamom adds a cool spice, so the start reads bright rather than sweet. Within minutes the lavender is already showing through, with clary sage giving it a slightly musky, herbal edge.

The heart is lavender with a frosted floral glow. Rabanne's own description names vivid lavender, a vanilla accord and a frosted orange blossom twist as the main notes, and that orange blossom is what separates it in wear: it makes the middle smoother and sweeter, closer to a modern blue aromatic than to the creamy sourness of the Parfum.

Why the note list above has no tiers: Parfumo publishes these eight notes without splitting them into top, heart and base, and we would rather leave the tiers empty than guess. Fragrantica does give a tiered pyramid, but it repeats Phantom Parfum's almost note for note and leaves out the orange blossom Rabanne names. The dry-down is vanilla with a soft boozy warmth from the rum absolute, and cedarwood keeps the finish from going syrupy.

Against the 2021 Phantom, which reads as candied apple, lemon zest and a faint smoke, the Intense is calmer and rounder. The apple is gone, the smoke is gone, and the orange blossom fills the space they left.

When to Wear

Fresher than Phantom Parfum, but still a vanilla-amber scent at heart. It works for evenings out, casual weekends and dates through the cooler months, and the brighter opening makes it easier to wear indoors than the Parfum. Midday in a Dhaka summer is where it struggles, because the sweetness sits closer to the skin in humid air. Two or three sprays suit an evening indoors, and on a cool night outdoors it can take one more.

Who Is It For

Men who want a Phantom that reads polished rather than provocative, and who like the sweet lavender-vanilla style that runs through a lot of modern designer releases. Anyone who found the original Phantom too candied, or the Parfum too sour, will find this the easiest of the three to wear. Collectors looking for something unlike their existing blue fragrances should test it first. It also makes sense in a small rotation as the one sweet evening scent that will not clash with a fresh daytime fragrance.
