When Prada decided to push the Luna Rossa line somewhere darker, the result was Prada Luna Rossa Black, an Eau de Parfum released in 2018 and created by perfumer Daniela Andrier. Where the rest of the Luna Rossa family leans on fresh lavender, Black abandons that entirely. What it offers instead is an oriental woody composition that feels cooler and more introspective, closer to a quiet evening than an open horizon. Aromatica carries the Prada Luna Rossa Black decant in Bangladesh in all available sizes.
Fragrance Notes
Top: Bergamot
Heart: Angelica, Patchouli
Base: Coumarin, Amber, Musk
The Scent
Built on bergamot and angelica, the opening is immediately unusual. Bergamot brings a citrus brightness, but the angelica cuts across it with a green, slightly bitter, almost herbal quality that keeps things from feeling cheerful. There is a coolness to it, something slightly metallic and shadowed, and within the first ten minutes you are already past standard fresh-citrus territory and into something with more edge. Angelica is not a common heart note, and its presence here does real work: it bridges the citrus top and the earthy patchouli below without ever reading as floral or pretty. The bergamot itself does not fade entirely; it lingers at the edges of the heart, lending a faint luminous lift that prevents the composition from closing in on itself entirely. As the fragrance settles into its heart, patchouli moves forward. It is not the heavy, incense-thick patchouli of an older oriental; it reads cleaner and more modern, adding an earthy depth without pulling the composition into murkiness. The combination of angelica and patchouli together is where Luna Rossa Black makes its character most clear, a slightly gothic, quietly dark accord that still feels wearable and refined. The transition between heart and base is gradual rather than abrupt, the earthy and herbal qualities softening incrementally as the warmer materials rise to meet them. Around the thirty-minute mark the base begins to assert itself, and this is where coumarin does most of the work. Coumarin carries a soft, warm sweetness that reads as vanillic without being a vanilla fragrance, and here it smooths over the patchouli and creates a genuinely enveloping quality. There is a passing resemblance to Bvlgari Black in this phase, a shared rubbery, slightly sweet warmth, though the two compositions have distinct characters worth experiencing separately. The amber and musk in the drydown reinforce the warmth without pushing into heavy sweetness; it stays controlled and close to the skin. The coumarin-amber accord can read gently powdery or clean and smooth depending on skin chemistry, and both readings are accurate at different stages of the wear. The musk here is restrained rather than animalic, and it works with the amber to give the drydown a polished, skin-close quality rather than a loud trail. By the end of an hour, this is a close, warm oriental skin scent with real character and no excess.
When to Wear
Luna Rossa Black works best in cooler weather, from autumn through winter, when the warm coumarin and amber base can fully develop without competition from heat. It suits evening occasions and after-dark settings, from a dinner out to a night at the theatre, wherever something polished but edged is called for.
Who Is It For
Made for the man who finds most designer fragrances too predictable and wants something with genuine depth and restraint, someone who gravitates toward dark, modern orientals but prefers them elegant rather than heavy.
