Common Questions
Good to know
-
Both are the darker entries in the Luna Rossa line, but darkness means different things here. Luna Rossa Carbon is metallic and mineral, bergamot and pepper into lavender, coal and soil tincture over ambroxan and patchouli. Black stays soft, pairing angelica against bergamot and finishing on coumarin, amber and musk for a blurred, powdery warmth. Carbon reads cold; Black reads enveloping.
-
It softens rather than intensifies, which is unusual for a coumarin base. Bergamot fades within minutes, so angelica's green, bitter edge carries the early wear on warm skin and holds its shape better than a straight citrus would. Coumarin and amber underneath do warm up, but with no vanilla or resin stacked behind them, the effect stays a soft haze rather than heavy sweetness.
-
Luna Rossa Ocean is the line's fresh, aquatic register, aromatic and airy rather than resinous. Black is its opposite number, dropping lavender entirely and building an oriental woody structure from bergamot, angelica, patchouli, coumarin and amber. If Ocean is a bright weekday scent, Black is the version built for an evening indoors, dense where Ocean stays open.
-
It reads darker than a typical designer masculine but stays refined rather than heavy. Angelica keeps the opening green and slightly bitter instead of sweet, and the coumarin-amber-musk base stays close to the skin rather than loud. Compared to a straightforward fresh fougere it will feel unusual at first, but it never turns aggressive or gourmand, which keeps it wearable for daily rotation.
-
This departs so far from the rest of the aquatic, lavender-driven Luna Rossa line that fans of the original range may not recognize it as a sibling. A decant lets you confirm the angelica-coumarin combination actually works on your skin, and compare it directly against Carbon or Ocean, before committing to a full bottle of a fragrance built on contrast rather than familiarity.
