Paco Rabanne Fame Intense

Fame Intense is the 2024 eau de parfum intense in Rabanne's Fame line, a denser follow-up to the mannequin-bottled original. Watery coconut and pink pepper open onto a sunny jasmine and incense heart, drying down to creamy sandalwood and soft musk. Rabanne launched it as a duo with Phantom Intense, built around what it calls solar jasmine, an incense trio and sandalwood cream.

The Scent

The opening is fresher than the name suggests. Coconut water reads milky and slightly salty rather than tropical-sweet, pink pepper gives it a dry sparkle, and bergamot keeps the first minutes bright.

Jasmine arrives quickly and stays at the centre. Rabanne's notes describe it as a solar jasmine, and it does have that warm, skin-like glow, with ylang-ylang thickening it into something creamier. The incense is the surprise: it adds a soft, smoky shimmer that keeps the floral from becoming sugary.

The base is sandalwood, musk and Virginian cedar. There is no vanilla in the listed pyramid, which is the clearest structural change from the 2022 Fame, and it shows in the dry-down: creamy and woody rather than dessert-sweet. The musk gives the finish a clean, close-to-skin quality.

Compared with the 2022 Fame, the change is easy to follow. The original opens on mango and finishes on vanilla, which gives it a fruity, dessert-like arc. The Intense replaces both ends of that arc: coconut water instead of mango at the top, musk and cedar instead of vanilla at the base. What stays is the jasmine and incense core, which is why the two still read as siblings. The incense trio Rabanne mentions never turns churchy; it works more like a soft haze over the flowers.

When to Wear

Light enough for daytime, which is not true of every intense flanker. The coconut water and musk keep it airy, and the incense is soft rather than churchy. It works for daytime outings, lunches and evenings out, and suits spring and the mild end of the year best. Deep winter nights call for something heavier. In air-conditioned offices the incense is barely noticeable and the scent reads as clean jasmine; outdoors in warm air the coconut and sandalwood come forward.

Who Is It For

Women who like a creamy white floral but find heavy vanilla scents tiring, and anyone who wants the Fame character with a warmer, incense-touched centre. It is also a reasonable gift choice for someone whose taste you know leans floral, because it avoids the polarising extremes. Anyone after a sharp green or citrus scent will find it too soft. As a gift it is easier to judge than many floral releases, because nothing in it is sharp or animalic. The only risk is that someone who wants obvious sweetness may find it quieter than expected.
