Common Questions
Good to know
-
Both put fruit against tobacco-adjacent warmth but take different routes. Triumph Of Bacchus opens on rum with white peach and green apple, then tonka and patchouli over tobacco, vanilla and amber, so the booze leads. Carlisle keeps the green apple but sharpens it with saffron and nutmeg, runs rose, osmanthus and davana through the heart, and lands on vanilla, patchouli and opopanax. Argos leans boozier; Carlisle leans floral and balsamic.
-
It softens, and saffron is what keeps the opening interesting. Green apple reads crisp and tart in cool air but turns rounder and sweeter on warm skin, softening the tension that makes the first ten minutes distinctive. Saffron holds its dry edge in heat and does more work as a result, while vanilla and opopanax gain weight through the afternoon, so the balsamic finish arrives sooner.
-
The dry-down leans fully into vanilla, patchouli and opopanax resin, and it can read rich and satisfying or tip past the sweet threshold depending on tolerance. The tart green apple and dry saffron-nutmeg opening delay that sweetness for the first several minutes, but by the heart phase the balsamic direction is already set. Anyone who finds vanilla-patchouli combinations cloying should sample this before buying a larger size.
-
Carlisle moves through three distinct phases, a tart apple opening, a spiced floral heart, and a full balsamic vanilla-patchouli base, and how sweet that final stage reads depends heavily on individual skin chemistry. A decant lets you wear it start to finish more than once and judge whether the drydown settles into something rich or becomes too much, before committing to a bottle at this house's price point.
-
Akaster (Batch 2017) is the house's dry, restrained rose-oud, cypress and lemon over Bulgarian rose, geranium, agarwood and cardamom, with no sweetness anywhere in it. Carlisle sits at the opposite extreme, green apple and saffron opening into a plush, balsamic vanilla-patchouli-opopanax base. If Akaster shows this house at its most austere, Carlisle shows it at its most indulgent.
