The Scent

Ginger hits first, warm and a little peppery, with bergamot cutting through it to keep the opening from feeling heavy. Artemisia adds a green, slightly bitter herbal streak underneath, the kind of note that makes the first few minutes smell more like a walk through underbrush than a bottle of perfume. Within twenty minutes the citrus starts to fade and balsam fir steps forward, bringing a cold, resinous forest quality that pairs oddly well with the ginger still lingering at the edges. Incense joins next, not smoky in a heavy church sense but more like dry resin warmed on skin, and patchouli fills in the space between them with an earthy, slightly damp texture. Oakmoss in particular seems to pull the whole composition back toward the ground, damp and mineral, while ambergris adds a warm skin-like undertone that keeps the moss from reading too cold. Benzoin and patchouli continue to trade places in the background here, one surfacing as the other fades, so the base never quite locks into a single fixed shape.
