Amouage Interlude Black Iris Eau de Parfum, released in 2020 and composed by Pierre Negrin, is a flanker to the original Interlude Man but one that brings unexpected balance, elegance, and wearability to the table. This version tones down the incendiary chaos of the original and introduces a luxurious iris note, turning the experience into something smoother, yet still intensely masculine and mysterious.

The opening unleashes a smoky, herbaceous blend of bergamot, rosemary, and violet leaves, immediately evoking a brooding, complex presence. It’s aromatic, slightly green, and already hints at the tension between brightness and shadow.

At the heart, orris (iris) takes center stage, surrounded by amber, labdanum, myrrh, vanilla, and frankincense. This combination is deep and resinous but softened by the powdery smoothness of orris, which mellows the aggressive edges found in the original Interlude.

The dry-down features a dark base of leather, oud, patchouli, sandalwood, and cedarwood, underpinned by a whisper of musk. The base retains the Interlude DNA smoky and incense-heavy but with a polished restraint that makes this scent more wearable and introspective.
