Description - Octavian
Warm amber depth, made for cooler months. Electimuss Octavian Extrait decant from ৳1,130 in Bangladesh, 3ml to 15ml. Notes of oud, amber and

Named for Augustus, first emperor of Rome, and built as a rose-oud in the grand manner. Electimuss released Octavian in 2020 as an extrait de parfum from its Emperor collection, with Christian Provenzano composing. Rose and oud is the most crowded pairing in niche perfumery, so the only question that matters is whether this one earns its place. Community opinion says yes, with caveats. Aromatica carries the Octavian decant in Bangladesh in all four sizes.

Fragrance Notes

Top: Saffron, Pink Pepper

Heart: Taif Rose, Bulgarian Rose, Olibanum

Base: Oud, Amber, Leather

The Scent

Saffron and pink pepper open it with a dry, slightly medicinal spice, and the oud is present from the first second rather than waiting for the base. That early oud is the most divisive element in the fragrance. A number of reviewers describe it as genuinely animalic, using words like barnyard and skanky, and some cannot get past it. Others consider that first hour the best part and say it is where the composition earns its price. The roses arrive quickly and they are not shy. Taif and Bulgarian rose together give a deep, jammy, almost wine-dark floral that fills out the middle, and Persian frankincense runs a cool smoke line underneath so the sweetness never turns syrupy. The animalic edge softens noticeably after the first hour, which is the single most useful thing to know before judging a first spray. What replaces it is smoother: leather and amber temper the oud, the roses stay prominent, and the whole thing settles into something rich rather than feral. Reviewers consistently describe it as harmonious and smooth but linear, and several note it does not evolve much once it arrives at that place. That is a criticism or a feature depending on what you want. It is easy to overspray, and multiple owners warn that the scent clings to fabric through several washes. Comparisons run towards Frederic Malle The Night and Electimuss Nebulous, though most reviewers say the resemblance to the latter lasts seconds. Value is where the house takes the most criticism. Several people who rate Octavian as one of the better things Electimuss makes still argue the asking price is difficult to justify against the rose-oud competition, and a decant is the sensible way to settle that question for yourself. Application matters more here than with most fragrances, and the difference between two sprays and five is the difference between rich and unwearable.

When to Wear

Cold weather and evening. Winter nights, formal events and dinners where a heavy rose-oud is expected rather than surprising. It becomes overwhelming in heat. See the Oud and Dark Woods collection for more.

Who Is It For

Someone who already owns several rose-ouds and wants one with real animalic character in the opening, and who applies with restraint.

If you want to hear where else this house goes, Trajan is the other Electimuss in the catalogue and sits in a different corner of the Emperor line. Browse the full Electimuss collection at Aromatica.

Available as an authentic decant in Bangladesh at Aromatica in 3ml, 5ml, 9ml, and 15ml.
