Description - Mint & Tonic
Sun-soaked citrus over quiet woods. Atkinsons Mint & Tonic EDP decant from ৳598, shipped across Bangladesh. Notes of grapefruit, lime and ma
A gin and tonic translated into perfume sounds like a gimmick until you smell how restrained Atkinsons kept it. Mint & Tonic joined the house's Contemporary Collection in 2018, an eau de parfum built by Evelyne Boulanger around mint as the central idea rather than a garnish. Atkinsons has been making scent in London since 1799, and the English garden framing is not accidental. The Mint & Tonic price in Bangladesh is worth knowing if you have been curious about the house.
Fragrance Notes
Top: Mint, Lime, Grapefruit
Heart: Ginger, Mandarin Orange, Geranium
Base: Vetiver, Cedar, Musk
The Scent
The mint arrives first and it is leafy rather than toothpaste, closer to a crushed sprig than a menthol crystal. Lime and grapefruit come in almost immediately behind it with a fizzy, slightly bitter quality that does read like tonic water, and the bitterness is what keeps the opening from turning into a soft drink. The whole first stretch is cold and green without being sharp. Ginger appears in the heart and it is the most interesting move in the composition, adding a dry warmth that plays against the mint instead of covering it. Mandarin sweetens the middle a little, and geranium keeps a green, faintly rosy thread running through. As it dries down the citrus recedes and vetiver takes over, grassier and warmer than the top suggested. Cedar and musk finish it clean and close to the skin, soft rather than woody in any assertive way. Reviewers consistently describe it as simple and high quality at the same time, and several note the same trade-off: it wears close and does not project for long. That is the recurring complaint. On the comparison side, one reviewer places it near Creed Silver Mountain Water for its crispness and luminosity, and near Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt for the fresh, almost transparent finish, though Mint & Tonic is more effervescent and less saline than either. The fragrance was shown at Esxence in 2018 and the reaction there was telling: one reviewer spent a week trying to work out why such a familiar structure appealed so much, landing on the accord of green apple against vetiver as the likely reason. There is no complexity being hidden here. The composition is short, the materials are good, and the pleasure comes from how cleanly the mint sits over the citrus rather than from any development. A lesser house would have made the same list of notes forgettable.
When to Wear
Hot daytime weather, office hours and casual outings through spring and summer. This is the kind of fragrance that reads as good grooming rather than perfume, which is its strength in Dhaka heat. Sits well within our Citrus | Zesty collection.
Who Is It For
Someone who wants a clean citrus that is not another generic blue fragrance, and who values quality of materials over projection.
If you enjoy this style of bright, herbal citrus, Lime Basil & Mandarin by Jo Malone sits in the same family and is worth comparing. Browse the full Atkinsons collection at Aromatica.
