Raw, polarising, and completely uncompromising, Ahmed AL Maghribi Leather is a 2020 Eau de Parfum that announces its intentions immediately. This is a house that builds fragrances around a single material and refuses to soften the edges, and Leather is the clearest proof of that. It sits in the Arabic perfumery tradition of bold, skin-close compositions, but the construction here borrows from both Eastern and Western perfumery schools, pairing a hard leather core with powdery florals and resinous depth. Aromatica carries the Ahmed AL Maghribi Leather decant in Bangladesh in all available sizes.
Fragrance Notes
Top: Citrus Zest, Raspberry, Saffron, Thyme
Heart: Iris, Violet Leaf, Olibanum, Jasmine
Base: Leather Accord, Suede, Cedar, Vetiver, Amber, Woody Notes
The Scent
Saffron and thyme come forward first, giving the opening a dry, almost medicinal sharpness that sits on top of a bright citrus lift and a faint berry sweetness from the raspberry. The combination is more savoury than fruity, and that sets the direction early: this is not a soft or approachable opening. Within ten minutes, the saffron starts pulling the composition inward, drawing it toward the heart rather than outward into the air. Iris appears next, powdery and cool, smoothing over the herbaceous edges of the thyme and giving the transition a chalky quality. Violet leaf adds a green, slightly bitter contrast to the iris that keeps the heart from going fully sweet. Olibanum brings a thin thread of incense smoke through the middle, and jasmine adds warmth without bloom, staying close to skin rather than projecting outward. The overall heart accord is smoky, powdery, and slightly austere, the kind of thing that feels more like a worn linen jacket than a garden. The base is where Leather fully commits. The leather accord here reads as dry and slightly scorched rather than buttery or smooth, landing closer to bridle leather than suede at first. Suede then softens that edge through the drydown, adding a felt-like quality that makes the base more wearable as time passes. Cedar provides a clean, woody structure, while vetiver anchors everything with an earthy, slightly smoky depth. Amber warms the final stage without sweetening it significantly, and the woody notes hold the composition together in a dry, resinous finish. There is a split worth flagging: skin with higher body heat reads this as darker and more animalic, while on cooler skin the suede and powder read more prominently. Both versions are valid, but they feel like different fragrances, which makes this worth sampling before sizing up.
When to Wear
Leather suits autumn and winter evenings, formal dinners, and candlelit settings where its dry, smoky character can breathe without competing with heat or humidity. It also works well in air-conditioned office environments during cooler months, where the powdery iris and suede base keep it close and composed. Who Is It For
Wearers who gravitate toward dark, material-focused fragrances and want a leather scent that does not apologise for being a leather scent will find exactly what they are after here. It rewards patience and is best appreciated by someone who already knows they like their fragrances dry, smoky, and slightly rough around the edges.
If you enjoy Wild Leather by Mancera, the two share the same uncompromising leather DNA and are worth placing side by side, with Leather running drier and more incense-forward. Browse the full Ahmed AL Maghribi collection at Aromatica.
