  • Both are Le Gemme roses, but Sahare is a sharp, green Taif rose with citrus and black pepper over ambergris and myrrh. Reviewers on the Fragrantica page call it a complete departure from Garanat, the house's earlier rose.

  • Only in part. A few reviewers find the slightly boozy, sweet rose in Sahare's opening reminiscent of Oud Satin Mood. Sahare has no oud or vanilla base, though. It dries down to ambergris and myrrh, which makes it saltier and more resinous.

The Scent

The opening is lemon and bergamot, and on some skins the citrus is loud enough to cover everything else for the first minutes. Behind it, a green, sharp rose is already pushing through. Reviewers describe this stage as sparkling, zingy and a little spicy.

The heart is Taif rose with black pepper. This is the centre of the scent, and the rose is the star however the notes are listed. It reads bold and green at first, with a thorny edge. Some wearers get a slightly boozy, sweet rose here and are reminded of the rose in Oud Satin Mood. Others describe a metallic, spicy rose or even an aldehydic, watery one. Pepper keeps it from turning jammy.

The drydown is ambergris and myrrh. Ambergris adds a salty, musky fullness, and myrrh brings a soft resin. Over time the rose turns deeper, more powdery and more serious, with one reviewer describing a dark, inky red-wine shade. This is where opinion splits most.
