Common Questions
Good to know
-
The date-and-custard pairing. Jean-Christophe Herault builds it around dried dates and a creamy custard note, with saffron, davana and timur adding a slightly sharp, almost medicinal lift up top. That contrast between boozy dried fruit and creamy sweetness is what defines it.
-
Both, layered. It opens sweet and fruity but dries down on labdanum, cypriol, immortelle and cedar, which gives it a drier, more resinous base than a pure gourmand. So it moves from a date-custard opening to a warm woody-amber finish.
-
Both share a warm, spiced date backbone, but Grow adds a custard accord and an unusual mix of saffron, davana and Timur pepper that reads denser and more challenging upfront. Lattafa Khamrah is the more straightforward, better-known reference point if Grow's opening feels like too much at first.
-
The first five minutes are genuinely a lot: saffron and Timur pepper arrive sharp and almost numbing before the custard accord softens everything in the heart. If you can push through that initial phase, the composition rewards patience with a creamy, tobacco-like warmth that the opening doesn't hint at.
-
Grow is genuinely divisive, with some wearers finding the note density cozy and complex and others finding it chaotic. A 5ml decant lets you sit through the challenging opening and judge whether the custard-rose-cypriol progression that follows is worth living with, before spending on a bottle of something this dense.
