Description - English Pear & Freesia
Modern florals with serious craft. Jo Malone English Pear & Freesia Cologne decant from ৳725 in Bangladesh, 3ml to 15ml. Notes of rose, free
Jo Malone London built a modern classic when Christine Nagel put fruit and flower on the same line in 2010, and English Pear & Freesia is the reason half of London seems to smell like a fresh orchard every autumn. It reads as fruity floral but never sweet, more like biting into a ripe pear in a room full of cut flowers. Aromatica carries the English Pear & Freesia decant in Bangladesh in all available sizes, and it remains one of the most requested colognes in the Jo Malone lineup for good reason.
Fragrance Notes
Top: Pear, Melon
Heart: Freesia, Rose
Base: Musk, Patchouli, Rhubarb, Amber
The Scent
The first thing the nose registers is pear, juicy and slightly watery, propped up by melon so the fruit reads crisp rather than jammy. There is no sugar rush here. Within minutes the freesia steps forward, light and green with a papery quality that keeps the whole composition from tipping into anything cloying. Rose follows close behind, but it stays translucent, more dew than bouquet, and it never fights the freesia for attention. What surprises people who expect a straightforward fruity floral is the rhubarb tucked into the base. It brings a tart, almost vegetal snap that resurfaces every so often on skin, cutting through the softness right when the composition threatens to go too pretty. As the pear and melon fade, patchouli and musk take over, and the dry-down turns quiet and skin-close rather than woody or heavy. Amber warms the final stage enough to keep it from feeling thin, wrapping the rhubarb and patchouli into something soft and slightly powdery by the end. On some skin the rose pushes harder in the middle hours, reading almost soapy, while on others the pear lingers stubbornly into the base and keeps the whole thing tasting like fruit long after the freesia has gone. Both readings are true, and both are pleasant. The overall shape stays linear and true to its opening character rather than transforming into something unrecognizable, which is part of why it has stayed a bestseller for over a decade.
When to Wear
This is a September-through-spring fragrance, suited to daytime wear when the air still has a chill in it, think brunch, a garden visit, or a morning at the office. It works particularly well layered under a coat on a cool day, when the pear and freesia sit close to the collar. Pair it with something from the full Jo Malone collection for the brand's signature layering approach.
Who Is It For
Someone who wants to smell clean and put-together without reaching for anything sugary or loud, the type who prefers a crisp apple over a slice of cake. It suits people who like their florals sheer rather than heady.
If you enjoy the softer woods of Wood Sage & Sea Salt, it makes a good cabinet pairing for the opposite mood. Browse the full Jo Malone collection at Aromatica.
