Common Questions
Good to know
-
Same herbal instinct, different plant. Lime Basil & Mandarin is the citrus one: lime and mandarin sharpened with basil and thyme over vetiver and patchouli. Blackberry & Bay swaps citrus for tart, underripe fruit and swaps basil for bay leaf, which is rounder and less peppery, then finishes on cedar rather than patchouli.
-
Depends on your taste, and the fragrance does not try to hide it. The blackberry here is deliberately underripe and sour rather than jammy, with grapefruit sharpening it further, so some wearers read that bite as thin or unfinished while others find it the entire appeal. Either way it settles into a calmer bay-and-cedar dry-down within the first hour.
-
Both share Jo Malone's fruit-and-green instinct, but the fruit is worlds apart. This one runs tart, underripe blackberry against bay leaf and grapefruit into cedar and vetiver, staying green and slightly bitter throughout. English Pear & Freesia works from a softer, sweeter orchard fruit instead, so reach for this one when you want tartness rather than ripeness.
-
Better than most of the range, and bay leaf is why. Blackberry and grapefruit are volatile and go quickly in high heat, as tart fruit notes always do, but bay leaf is a sturdy aromatic that holds its cool, slightly bitter green character on warm skin instead of collapsing. Cedar and vetiver underneath stay dry rather than turning sweet, giving a shorter fruit phase and a longer herbal one.
-
The blackberry's sourness reads as a flaw to some noses and the entire appeal to others, and that split is impossible to predict without wearing it. A small decant settles the question cheaply, letting you confirm whether the bay-leaf-and-cedar dry-down suits you before spending on a bottle of something this specific in mood.
