Common Questions
Good to know
-
Bitter almond opens the fragrance with a sharp, metallic edge, and black licorice runs underneath it as a cool anise thread, together creating a bracing quality rather than anything warm or welcoming. That confrontational opening is deliberate, meant to be resolved once coconut milk and tonka bean begin softening the accord ten minutes in.
-
No. The licorice, bitter almond and guaiac wood keep it from becoming a soft dessert vanilla, pushing it instead toward something dark, resinous and woody. Someone expecting a cupcake-style vanilla will find it unexpectedly serious and smoky; someone tired of sweet vanillas will find real complexity here.
-
Both are gourmand-leaning vanillas with real depth, but Un Bois Vanille is built around bitter almond, licorice and guaiac wood for a darker, more bitter character throughout. Tobacco Vanille sits in the same resinous territory without that medicinal opening, making the two worth comparing directly for anyone deciding between them. See Tobacco Vanille.
-
A La Nuit. Both use a quiet musk that pulls the composition together rather than announcing itself, but A La Nuit builds its base around honey and benzoin instead of the sandalwood and guaiac wood that anchor Un Bois Vanille. See A La Nuit.
