Tonka Hysteria arrived in 2024 as part of the house's three-piece Extrait collection, composed by Jordi Fernandez at 35 percent concentration, the highest of the three. It is a powdery amber rather than a bakery gourmand, and the iris in the middle is what makes the difference. The Scent
Cinnamon and pink pepper carry the opening, warm and dry rather than sharp, with mandarin somewhere behind them that most people never consciously register. Frankincense is listed at the top and reads as a faint smokiness threaded through the spice instead of a separate note. The transition into the heart is where it separates itself from every other tonka release. Orris butter arrives with a buttery, almost cosmetic smoothness, and it turns the sweetness into something powdery and grown up rather than edible. Lily of the valley is technically in there and almost nobody smells it as a flower, which is fine, since its job is to keep the iris from going heavy. From the heart onward the fragrance barely moves. Reviewers consistently describe it as linear, and in this case that reads as confidence rather than laziness. The tonka and vanilla in the base are dark and slightly boozy, closer to a cigar wrapper than to dessert, with benzoin adding a resinous stickiness underneath.
