Common Questions
Good to know
-
Encre Noire built its identity on sharp, forested vetiver alone. Encre Indigo softens that approach with spice and bergamot up top and lets black tea run the heart instead, making it considerably easier to wear day to day than its predecessor was.
-
Astringent rather than sweet. It brings a slightly tannic, leafy quality that anchors the whole composition, with saffron offering a suede-like softness alongside it so the mid-stage feels considered rather than one-note dry throughout the wear. The bergamot and spice opening fades into that tea long before the vetiver base takes hold.
-
Encre Noire A L'Extreme takes the original vetiver lineage further, giving it a darker, more concentrated read than Encre Indigo's tea-and-spice detour. Encre Indigo trades that forested intensity for an easier, tea-accented profile better suited to daily wear. See Encre Noire A L'Extreme.
-
It can lean toward a dark, damp soil-and-tea finish on some skin, which reads composed and adult, while on others it turns quieter and more neutral as the tea fades over the ambergris and patchouli. Humidity tends to favor the damper, earthier reading.
-
The dry-down genuinely reads two different ways depending on skin chemistry, either a composed dark soil-and-tea finish or a quieter, more neutral one. A decant confirms which experience you get before you invest in a larger size of this specific vetiver-and-tea structure.
-
Encre Indigo carries the same cool, vetiver-and-juniper opening that defines the Encre Noire family, but it moves away from the line's austere, earthy signature. Lalique Encre Noire Eau de Toilette leans on a rootier, drier vetiver as its core, while Encre Indigo folds in black tea, saffron and bay leaf, giving it a leafier, more approachable character than the original's stark, soil-forward profile.
