Common Questions
Good to know
-
David Seth Moltz built the whole composition around a specific story, an old barbershop catching fire, which is why a traditional minty-lavender barbershop accord sits directly against a warm, oily smoke note rather than staying purely clean. That narrative concept is the entire reason for the contrast.
-
It reads as a split experience: the opening is fresh and herbal, while the late drydown turns dark and retro with burnt oil and hay. Someone expecting a conventional lavender fougere for daily wear will be caught off guard by how far the base drifts from that familiar opening.
-
No, it softens considerably. The burnt-oil note is strongest in the first phase, then settles into the minty-lavender fougere with the smoke sitting quietly underneath as hay and vanilla emerge. It becomes more wearable after it has had time to develop rather than staying at peak intensity.
-
Incense 01 by Swiss Arabian sits in related smoke-forward territory, making it worth comparing for anyone drawn to Burning Barbershop's late-stage smokiness but curious how a more straightforwardly incense-driven composition handles similar material without the lavender-tuberose barbershop framing. See Incense 01.
