Description - Kenzo Homme Santal Marin
Woody, herbal, grown-up. Kenzo Homme Santal Marin EDT from ৳433, authentic decants in Bangladesh. Notes of guaiac wood, lavender and sandalw
Woody aquatics rarely do anything unexpected, but Quentin Bisch's 2024 creation for the Kenzo Homme line managed to sidestep the obvious. Kenzo Homme Santal Marin is an Eau de Toilette that opens with a compressed, salty marine accord and lands in warm, creamy sandalwood territory, making the progression feel more considered than most. It is built from 96.9% natural-origin ingredients, which gives the whole thing a cleaner, less synthetic character than the category is known for. Aromatica carries the Kenzo Homme Santal Marin decant in Bangladesh in all available sizes.

The Scent
Salt hits first: a heavy marine accord that reads more like open sea than synthetic aquatic freshener. There is a windswept quality to it, a sense of compressed ocean air rather than a simple watery spray. It does not linger at that intensity for long. Within the first ten minutes, the marine note begins to settle, and the composition starts to breathe. Quiet lavender enters in the heart, not the big lavender of classic fougeres but something pulled back, almost subliminal, adding an aromatic undertone without announcing itself. It functions more as a structural element than a headline note, softening the shift from marine to wood and giving the mid-stage something to hold onto as the salt recedes. By the mid-stage, the sandalwood begins to emerge, and this is where the fragrance earns its name. The sandalwood here is milky and smooth, carrying that classic creamy richness without going powdery or sweet. As the lavender fades into the background, the sandalwood takes on more presence, and the two woods start to define the character of the dry-down together. Alongside it, guaiac wood adds a slightly smoky, faintly bitter edge that keeps the dry-down from becoming too soft or comforting. The contrast between the creamy sandalwood and the drier guaiac wood is where the fragrance does its most interesting work. On skin, the dry-down settles into a warm, woody base beneath which a residual salt note persists, a ghost of the opening that anchors the whole thing to the sea without making it feel like a beachside cologne. The high proportion of natural-origin ingredients becomes noticeable here: the woods smell genuinely organic, with a slight roughness that synthetic wood accords rarely achieve. The shift from marine to wood can read as fluid and well-paced, or it can feel like a brief pause where the scent seems to collect itself before settling into the base, as though the middle act is still deciding what it wants to be. That transition is worth paying attention to on first wear. The overall arc moves from brisk and saline to aromatic and woody in a way that feels deliberate rather than accidental, and the final dry-down carries enough character to hold interest well past the opening minutes. This is not a fragrance that exhausts its ideas in the first spray.
When to Wear
Kenzo Homme Santal Marin works best in warm weather and transitional seasons, particularly for casual daytime wear: weekends near the water, outdoor lunches, or relaxed summer evenings. The marine-to-wood arc also makes it a reasonable choice for an office environment where something fresh but with substance is appropriate.
Who Is It For
Built for the person who grew up wearing clean aquatics and is ready to move into something with more warmth and depth, without abandoning that fresh, open-air character entirely.
If you enjoy the salt-and-wood dynamic of Kenzo Homme Marine, Santal Marin sits in the same family and adds a richer, creamier base worth comparing. Browse the full Kenzo collection at Aromatica.
