Don’t Buy De/cants From Us Before Reading This!

This writeup is for anyone planning to buy a de/cant from us or wanting to understand how de/cants work. If you don’t want to read this, chances are, de/cants may not be for you.

A. What are De/cants and Why Do They Exist?

The term “de/canting” originates from wine culture. Expensive wines—especially vintage ones—are shared among collectors and enthusiasts in small pours to reduce cost and maximize variety.

We apply the exact same logic to perfumes.

A de/cant is a small glass/plastic bottle filled with a portion of an original, full-sized fragrance. The juice is transferred from the original bottle into the smaller container using sanitized tools and proper care.

That’s it. No mixing, no diluting, no altering. Just the original juice, divided.

We use this system because most niche or designer fragrances are expensive, and blind-buying them is risky. De/cants let you test the real thing at a fraction of the cost. You can see how a fragrance reacts to your skin, your weather, your lifestyle before investing in a full bottle.

B. What You Need to Know Before Buying a Fragrance De/cant

If you’ve only used a handful of fragrances directly on your skin, you’re still new to this world. And there’s nothing wrong with that, but it means you need to approach this carefully.

1. Start Small. Always.

Like any other luxury items—phones, watches, clothes—you don’t buy without research. Fragrances are no different, except they’re more subjective than almost any other luxury products.

You may read raving reviews of a fragrance and still hate how it smells or performs on your skin. Why?

2. Online Reviews Are Often Misleading

  • YouTube/Facebook/Instagram reviewers usually have highly trained noses. The notes their noses detect or enjoy, your nose might not even register them.
  • Sponsored content is rampant. Many reviews are paid ads in disguise.
  • Fragrance performance depends on the wearer. The same scent might last 12 hours on one person and vanish in 30 minutes on another.

3. Read Real User Feedback

Instead of blindly trusting YouTubers or paid bloggers, check platforms like:

  • Reddit (r/fragrance, r/IndiePerfumes)
  • Fragrantica (user comment sections)
  • Our own Facebook group (we allow all reviews—positive, negative, and neutral)

People there break down how a scent performs in real life, under real weather, on real skin.

Then, go for our smallest size—usually 3ML. You’ll get 4–5 full wears out of them, enough to judge the scent, projection, longevity, and whether it works for you. Also, longevity is not in the control of a de/anter.

C. Can You Be Sure Our De/cants Are Authentic?

Short answer: No. And this isn’t just about us—it applies to any de/canter, anywhere in the world.

Why?

Original fragrance bottles come with multiple built-in authenticity indicators:

  • Etched batch codes on the bottle
  • Specific font styles on the box
  • Customized spray nozzles and caps
  • Unique cellophane folds
  • Weight and feel of the cap and box
  • Certain bottle shapes and finishes only brands can produce

But once the juice is removed and poured into a plain 3ML or 5ML atomizer, none of those elements transfer.

Even if you ask us for pictures of the original bottles—and we gladly provide them—you’re still not there to witness the transfer. And let’s be real: if you’re the type to doubt everything, that doubt won’t go away.

De/cants contain 50% perfume and 50% trust.
If you don’t have that trust, we’re not the right fit for you. Because the result will only be frustration—for both you and us.

D. Why Might a De/cant Perform Differently From the Full Bottle?

You might wear a de/cant and find the performance underwhelming compared to your expectations or a full bottle. Here’s why that can happen—and why most of it is not in our control:

1. The Transfer Process

Sometimes, though rarely, the act of transferring the juice—especially with air exposure—can subtly alter its behavior. Even the best lab setups face this issue occasionally. It doesn’t ruin the scent, but longevity or projection can slightly shift.

2. Your Skin Type

Dry or poorly hydrated skin drastically reduces performance. Fragrances stick better and last longer on moisturized, well-hydrated skin. Applying on dry skin is like spraying on sand—it just vanishes.

3. Fragrance Reformulations (Batches)

The IFRA (International Fragrance Association) monitors ingredient safety. When an ingredient is banned or limited(because of the ingredients slowly becoming extinct or being probable allergens):

  • Longevity drops – Quite a few key ingredients banned over the years are fixatives that used to provide longevity to fragrances
  • Scent profile changes – Bans on notes like Oakmoss and SandalWood are examples of this.

A full bottle you tried in 2018 may not smell or last the same in 2025. This is an industry-wide issue and beyond the control of both full bottle sellers and de/canters. To learn more, check out IFRA Safe USE

4. Climate & Environment

Most fragrances are designed in and for cooler, cleaner environments (Western Europe, USA, etc.). High humidity, pollution, and temperatures over 30°C (like we get here) break down notes faster, especially citruses and lighter scents.

5. Seasonal & Situational Usage

Some fragrances are meant for winter nights, others for spring mornings. Using a night scent in summer heat or a summer citrus in the rain will kill its performance. Brands design them for specific conditions, and wearing them wrong is a recipe for disappointment.

6. Hormones & Chemistry

Your skin’s pH, oil levels, sweat content, and hormones all affect how a fragrance smells and lasts. One scent might last 10 hours on your friend but disappear in 2 hours on you—and there’s no way to predict that.

E. How Do You Know We’re Legit?

Fair question. Here’s how you can judge us:

i. We’re Not Hobbyists—We’re Obsessive

Most de/canters do this as a side gig. For us, it’s personal. We’re fragrance freaks. We care about this space and take pride in what we offer. Reputation and prestige is the soul of our drive and 18 hours of grind 24×7.

ii. We’ve Invested Over 8 Figures (BDT) in Inventory

We’re not flipping bottles from online sales. We stock rare, niche, and luxury scents in large volumes. We don’t need the tiny profit margins from mixing or duping. If money was our only goal, we’d have launched our own perfume line by now.

iii. Our Business Model Makes Fakes Pointless

Why would we fake a de/cant when our goal is to get you to buy the full bottle later? An altered de/cant destroys that trust—and our future sale.

iv. We Keep Reviews Open for a Reason

Check our group. We don’t delete criticism. We use every piece of feedback to educate future buyers and fix misunderstandings. We’re not perfect—but we’re honest and transparent.

v. We Refund Even When We Don’t Have To

Most sellers will never refund for a sold de/cant, especially if it’s been used. We do. As long as it’s not a clear scam, we refund—even if it hurts our profits massively(we only sell freshly produced decants and never resell used refunded de/cants). Because we know what it feels like to be let down by a fragrance.

In Conclusion:

If you:

  • Need guaranteed longevity or performance
  • Don’t fully trust the process
  • Expect de/cants to be identical in every way to sealed bottles

Please do not buy from us.

We love what we do, and we’d rather work with customers who also love this space, are curious, and open to learning.
